Three column, fluid width, very plain but quite easy to customise and make it your own. Copes well with large font sizes.
Note that although the top looks extremely purple from this screenshot, it’s not: it’s actually this:

The left-most column is “content”, the middle one is “news” and the right-most one is “nav”.
I recommend keeping the right-most one as site navigation, but there are lots of interesting things you could do with the middle one. It’s the perfect space to show off your cool plugins:
- a tag cloud or a category cloud
- link lists
- some of dru’s plugins : random quote, most commented articles, recent referers, random image
- recent articles
- related articles
- recent comments
- most popular articles
etc. there are tons of possibilities.
For a personal site, any of the above would be cool. For a more professional site, I think a “context aware” menu would be cool. ie. a different menu depending on if you were looking at the front page, a single article, a section, a category, etc. then stuff like dynamenus and section menu woud be good candidate plugins.
nb. I can’t vouch for most of these plugins. :) You can see the list of the ones I use at the About page.
